ADVICE FROM INDUSTRY EXPERTS THIS WEEK GRAHAME STOWE OF GRAHAME STOWE BATESON MIDDLETON OFFICE
We are the property experts but we also realise that when purchasing a home…one of the biggest purchases you will probably ever make all the additional processes which are part of the purchase are equally important. Who do you go to for financial advice? Who should you go to for conveyancing, should you go by recommendation, cheapest quote?
That’s why we are interviewing experts throughout the industry to give you up to date professional advice to help buyers and vendors to answer any questions that they may have.
We have a list of experienced solicitors on our panel which we recommend to buyers and vendors because we know not only will they provide competitive quotes they will also guide you through the buying/selling process in a thorough manner.
This week I interviewed Grahame Stowe of Grahame Stowe Bateson, Middleton office. We are finding that more and more purchasers and home owners are looking for the cheapest possible quote for conveyancing, usually with online companies which is resulting in delayed transactions and dealing with call centres as apposed to an appointed conveyancing solicitor.
I asked Mr Stowe to explain the advantages and importance of instructing a reputable solicitor.
MAKING THE CHOICE FOR THE RIGHT LEGAL HELP – BEWARE!
Mr Stowe Says:“In this age of computer living buying on line, searching for the cheapest deal, is second nature. Why pay more for the privalege of the High Street if you can save on line…you wouldn’t if you were watching the cost, as most of us have to.
That’s all very well for an identical item. Does it apply to Lawyers? I warn you it doesn’t
When buying a property you will more than likely, be investing in the largest sum of your life. You need to be assured the purchase is sound, you have been told of any potential problems and have been guided through the transaction.
Besides the confidence of knowing your investment/home is secure you will be embarking on a process that is itself involved.
You will want to talk to your appointed professional, and may well be far happier actually seeing them, to discuss plans, timetables and any worries you have.
Many online firms offering a cut price service will never see you, you wil conduct the process online, providing basic details and getting the same back.
Just be carful. Before you select a firm, ask the following questions:
- Will you ever be able to see them?
- Is there any limit on your contact?
- How long have they been in practise?
- Have you asked around about their professional reputation?
If you have any doubts, or don’t know the answers chat to your agent, they will likely know the names of respected professionals and can offer suggestions. At the end of the day its YOUR choice, make the right one.”
