Meanwood Area Guide

Located just to the North West of Leeds Centre. Meanwood (LS6 and LS7) is defined by its mix of town and country. It’s the closest thing to village life you will find within the reaches of a thriving metropolises like Leeds. The area boarders the ever popular Headingley (LS6) to the South West and to the East Chapel Allerton (LS7) with a similar blend of eateries and watering holes. Meanwood sits snugly in between, less than a mile each. It is a well connected suburb just inside the Ring Road with good connections to Leeds city centre and motorway network which include M1, M62, M621 and the A1/M1 Link road. Public transport is also good with bus services running ever 10-15 minutes into Leeds.

Meanwood is one of Leeds best loved open spaces with lots of varied walks and beautiful scenery. Meanwood Valley Urban Farm with its organic market is right on your door step, there is also the Meanwood Valley nature reserve with its fourteen acres of lush meadows and wetlands.

There is a village cricket pitch neighbouring the historic Myrtle Tavern and the Bay Horse Inn which is well regarded for its fine cuisine. Meanwood offers all the services you will need including a medical centre, post office and a dental surgery. There is the recently opened Waitrose with cafe along with a large selection of shops including Asda, Aldi, QLM and Pets at Home to name a few. Not only is Meanwood fantastic for it’s variety of shops but there are some great places to eat and drink. East of Arcadia, a large brassier and bar has recently opened, which offers good food and guest ales, the North Group are set to open a new bar and in addition to this, a lovely Italian restaurant called Via Verde, which is considered by the locals to be one of Meanwoods best kept secrets.

The local schools have continued to enjoy excellent reputations with Cardinal Heenan Catholic High and Allerton High School both rated ‘good’ whilst Meanwood C of E Primary attracted a ‘highly effective’ rating from OFSTED. Other well regarded schools are Miles Hill Primary, Carr Manor Primary, St Urbans Primary and Carr Manor High School. Within the private education sector Leeds Girls High School, Leeds Boys Grammar School and Gateways are all within a short commute of Meanwood. Indeed some even provide school buses with local ‘drop off’ and ‘pick up’ points to enable its pupils to travel to and from school.

Meanwood offers a variety of properties ranging from character Victorian terraces, Grade2 listed conversion developments, traditional bay windowed semis through to Modern apartments and luxurious executive homes on the highly regarded Woodlea development. Households tend to be a mixture of couple, families and young professionals.
