In September 2010 the Yorkshire Evening Post published an article ‘Leeds Feels the Waitrose Effect’ forecasting the effect that Waitrose opening in the area would have on Meanwood. They forecasted that the opening of such a store opening in the area would “make it likely that house prices would rise faster than elsewhere”.
It transpires almost three years down the line that they were spot on with their prediction. Not only has Waitrose brought hundreds of jobs to the area but it has given Meanwood a real boost. It has been smartened up by the arrival of Waitrose and this has had a real impact on the housing market here. In another Article at the end of last month The Daily Mail confirmed that properties near a Waitrose are 25% higher than those that are not.
With bars and restaurants opening recently in the area Meanwood has become a trendy hot spot for young first time buyers or investors looking for a buy to let opportunity. Whilst buyers still get more for their money in Meanwood than some areas further North, home owners are finding that the property prices in the last three years have slowly increased with the improvements taking place.
